This cemetery is a very old burial ground in Balrothery village, 15 miles north of Dublin, off the M1 motorway in Ireland.
I have not personally visited this graveyard, but was sent images of one of the two CWGC graves |

And very clear images they are too. I notice this grave is fenced. Is there a reason for that?
Thanks

In his email to me, Mr James wrote:
Quote: | Curiously John's grave is surrounded by a metal railing with a gate at the grave's foot, this is not standard CWGC. There is a text on the base of the stone, which indicates his family would have been involved and perhaps that explains the railing. |
I have found several CWGC gravestones within fenced enclosures in some of the island cemeteries here in Lewis as well.
I need to add the following: John Macaulay's name is spelled incorrectly both on the gravestone and on the CWGC entry on-line. The on-line spelling, John Maccaulay (note the TWO c's) make it virtually impossible to find this casualty in a search. I have requested Comann Eachdraidh Uig (which covers John Macaulay's home township of Islivig) to apply for an amendment to the CWGC entry on-line. |
