I am planning to set up a 'website' featuring my gravestone pics, but ordered by surname rather than by cemetery (as on this forum). Several of my pictures are of private gravestones and I would like to know whether it is OK to publish pictures of private stones on a website, and whether it is different from posting them on here. |

There should be no difference between posting on this forum and on your own website. Two main issues, copyright being the first, if you have taken the pics yourself then you have copyright, if taken by anyone else, then you need their permission (you are welcome to use any of mine). The second issue is whether you need permission to take them in the first place - generally if there is no restriction brought to your attention at the time you enter the cemetery etc or when you take the picture, then you are free to take it and use it as you see fit. Exceptions I can think of are Brookwood cemetery where you need a license, Highgate cemetery where I think photography is banned, St Giles Cathedral Edinburgh where you need to buy a photography license and Dunblane where photography is prohibited.
I would be interest to have a look at your site when it is up and running.
