I have now come across my first 'between the wars' MOD grave - like a CWGC one but with the corners cut off. It dates from 1930. I can usually manage to find some info about anyone in such a grave post WW2 but does anyone know of any lookup I can do for a grave from 1930?

You could download his death certificate from Scotland's People ( http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk ). That would giive you who his parents were and if he was married, his wife's name.
Maybe not the kind of info you are looking for - but it would be a start.

The period 1921-1939 is not a period covered in any detail online. A good source of information would be regimental magazines from this period which regimetal museums and large libraries should hopefully hold. But even then you may only get basic details.

Thanks both - I think I will leave this for someone who is really interested in researching it. I was only going to do it if I could fairly easily positively identify the soldier from online records.
