I have seem a post on this site relating to this unmaintained family cemetery in Monkton Ayrshire but I now cannot find the link. Can anyone let me know if this has war graves within it?[/b]

At the request of the owners of this private burial ground for the Fairfield Estate we have temporarily removed it from the forum.
I can confirm it contains one world wars grave, of a civilian engaged in war work, who was killed during the Blitz
CAMPBELL, FREDERICK CHARLES GUNNING
Initials: F C G
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Civilian
Regiment/Service: Civilian War Dead
Age: 53
Date of Death: 24/09/1940
Additional information: of 14 Trebovir Road. Died at 14 Trebovir Road.
Casualty Type: Civilian War Dead
Reporting Authority: KENSINGTON, METROPOLITAN BOROUGH
As a civilian casualty I don't think this grave is in the care of the CWGC

Lizzie this is not a War Grave.
CWGC have no involvement with it, it is a private burial like any other.
The only obligation which CWGC have in this is to maintain a Roll of the Civilian War Dead who lost their lives due to enemy actions between the relevant dates, the details of their record being those provided via the Reporting Authority involved. He did not have to be involved in war work, he might have been in his bed.

There is a wider issue in that more and more, as in this case, The Scottish War Graves Project is documenting graves which are not War Graves at all.

From day one, graves with a military connection have been added as these quite often can follow 'military families' and sometimes the careers of various generations can be plotted covering umpteen conflicts.
I agree however that this part of the Scottish Military History Project's title indicates that it's only war graves when that's not exactly what it is.
Hasn't seemed to cause any problems so far though.

Should not be a wider issue, it as always been our intention to cover significantly more than official war graves. This was clarified in the third post on this thread. http://scottishwargraves.phpbbweb.com/viewtopic.php?t=363
Admittedly it does not specifically mention civilian war deaths, this was a further clarification some time later.
