Pictures of headstones cannot be uploaded straight onto this website and so it is first necessary for a user to have an image "hosted" somewhere else.
To do this you have to use a picture host such as Photobox or Photobucket or even your own Internet provider.
It is then a case of uploading your pictures from your computer directly onto a host such as these.
Once they are uploaded you can then post on this forum.
With Photobucket it is easy to get the image posted.
In your album you will see four lines of code underneath each thumbnail picture. The bottom one includes the [img] tags. If you click it once you will see the word "copied" appear in yellow. You can then go into your message on this forum, right-click and select "paste". This will paste the entire URL including the img tags. |

I concur with Adam. I use photobucket for the sister War Memorials forum and it is very easy (and free!)

One for the Mods:
It is the intention of the Forum to post images of every war grave in scotland?
I can see this taking up a lot of bandwidth - but I'm a computer Luddite!

Beacuse we're posting the link and not the image we should be OK. This is a very long term project anyway so it will be a while before we find out!
Cheers

The forum hosts offers unlimited bandwidth, and no restriction on the number of posts, members, or size of forum.
Photobucket accounts are a finite size, but I have two of them. It appears to be possible to have more than one, so if one fills up, just create another.
Problem solved! |

I've just posted my first photos, after following your guide, and it was quite easy - but - the end results fill a much wider screen area than other posts. How do I reduce?

Kenneth,
You'll have to upload pictures that are not as wide. My pics are hosted on Flickr, and they offer the option of linking to smaller or larger versions of the photograph. Otherwise, you'll have to reduce the picture size in a graphics editor and upload those to (e.g.) Photobucket.

Thanks for that - is it a big issue if they are wide or just inconvenient?

Not a major issue, Kenneth, I am led to believe it is acceptable to have large pics on this site. |

I use VSO Image Resizer - free to download, you can find it in google.
Just right click on any picture or folder and make copies or resize the original to the size you want.
I recommend 800 X 600 for posting on the forum.

Thanks everone.
I finally used the famous male maxim "if all else fails, read the instructions!"
At the bottom of the download box on photbucket you can resize - but before you download.
(I had tried resizing after downloading but it did not work)
Anyway its ok now - see Kirkbean in D&G.
