This is an unusual memorial. Listed on CWGC, it is for 3 individuals that are buried elsewhere (in Holy Cross cemetery). It will be interesting to get to Holy Cross and see how their graves are marked there. I guess they have a private stone on a family plot. Has anyone seen anything like this before?

The small stone is because he was (presumably) buried in a family plot and there was no room for a full size stone.

The stone also lists a son also called Daniel Connell who was kia in 1917. He's the only other one listed on the SNWM database and it also gives his place of birth as Dumfries. Unfortunately the CWGC database gives no family details but I'm sure it is this man

Paul,
Are those Polish War Graves immediately behind some of your posts? The gravestones look very similar to those of Polish airman that I have photographed in Formby.

yes, there are nine I think, I have photos but I want to complete the commonwealth graves before I post them and I have to go back to get a couple I missed.
There are polish graves in Troqueer that I also have to post. Again, I want to get some missing commonwealth ones first.
