There seem to be quite a few CWGC headstones in the Western Isles Cemetery - Ainish / Eye where the blacking in of the letters on the headstones has been a bit slapdash.
Will this be cleaned up or is it expected the will the weather will do it?

I've seen this before. What I think has happened is that the lettering has been "filled in". Probably by a stonemason. I've seen marks like this when a name has been added to an existing gravestone. I would expect that they will be cleaned in due course. |

I have noticed in recent weeks that the lettering on CWGC gravestones in several Lewis graveyards has been filled in with black, e.g. at Sandwick and Aignish / Eye. I was quite happy to see that, as the legibility was beginning to suffer. |
