Bit of an odd one, this.
Guido has posted a grave in Sandwick cemetery, which has a CWGC stone, but neither of us have been able to locate him on the CWGC site. Can anyone help?
The details he's found (together with the picture) can be found on this page:

Cheers,

This is Guido's own website!
H C Hill is not listed on the SNWM either.

Looking up the good old paper copy of the CWGC register gives these details:
"..In addition two men of the British Merchant Navy, whose deaths were not due to war service, are buried in the war graves group.."
I take it Seaman Hall is one of these two unfortunate men.

He is indeed. I got the following information:
Quote: | HILL is in the CWGC database but in a section you cannot see online.
His grave is NOT a war grave. It is classified as a Non-World War Grave in CWGC Care. This means that he did not meet to conditions applying the the Merchant Navy for war grave status qualification. As a member of one of the Recognised Civilian Organisations, Merchant Navy men only qualified if they died on duty and of a war cause (torpedoing, mining, etc). HILL did not and, therefore, does not have War Grave status. When his headstone is replaced , he will receive a clipped corner Non-World War style stone.
Those in this non-war grave category are listed by CWGC but the list is not available online. |

Interesting, I had thought of a non-qualifying cause of death but ruled it out because of the non clipped gravestone. Interesting that this can be wrong as well.

Actually, the photo we have on the forum is cropped so we are unable to see the top of the stone. It may be that is a "clipped" stone at the moment. |

I'll go back to Sandwick to take a full picture of this gravestone. |

Here is the full picture of H C Hill's gravestone at Sandwick Cemetery, which answers the above query:
