Headstone : In Loving Memory of a Beloved Husband and Daddy : Det Inspector Duncan A. FRASER, died 15th July 1951 , at Kirkheaton, Huddersfield
Duncan Alexander FRASER was born in Inverness the son of Duncan Fraser , proprietor of the Northern Hotel in Inverness . Duncan A Fraser attended Inverness High School and in 1919 joined the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders serving at different locations in the world .
On 15th April 1929 after serving in the HM Forces with the Cameron Hdrs he was appointed Police Constable no 1457 in the West Riding Constabulary and posted to Huddersfield Division. Promoted to Sgt in 1941 and promoted to Inspector in February 1946 then posted to Harrogate in 1947 and on 23 November 1947 appointed Detective Inspector at Huddersfield .
During the night of Saturday 14th July 1951 observations were made on a farmhouse - Whinney Close farm , Kirkheaton and all in place by 2345 hours and all was quiet and at 0200 hours on the 15th voices were heard folllowed by Five shots . Officers found Det Insp D A Fraser dead at the locus holding his light torch and beside Police Constable 1117 Jagger clutching his stomach having been shot . Pc Jagger later died .
On Wednesday 18th July 1951 a memorial service was held for Det Insp D A Fraser at Kirkheaton Parish Church and 22 police officers led the cortege attended by Lt Col Sir Frank Brook, HMI of Constabulary for the Home Secretary and Capt Sir Henry Studdy, Chief Constable of West Riding Constabulary .
During the morning of Friday 20th July 1951 , the funeral was held in the West Church Inverness attended by Supt Foster , West Riding Constabulary , Lt Col Sir Frank Brook, HMI , family members as well as former school members from his school days in Inverness , members of the Inverness Burgh Police as well as members from his old Regiment of the Queens Own Cameron Highlanders . Major D M Geddes represented the Regiment and other officers attending were Major General I C Grant , Brig I C Cameron, Lt Col B C Methuen all who had served with him in the Cameron Hdrs . Pipe major R Mackay played a lament a tthe graveside at Tomnahurch Cemetery Inverness .
Det Insp Fraser had been involved in the Cameron Hdrs Regimental Assoc and was involved in establishing a Regimental Club in Inverness .
Det Insp Fraser had intended to retire a few months later back to his home of Inverness to run the family hotel . His widow Catherine Fraser was a daughter of the late John Fraser , Glenalbyn Hotel in Inverness . Det Insp Fraser & Mrs Fraser had a 13 year old daughter patricia and they attended the funeral
