The inscription is as follows:
"In loving memory of my dear wife and our beloved mother
MARGARET RODGER died 19th September 1962 aged 71 years
Their sons JAMES also WILLIAM killed in France
Their daughter JEANIE
Her dear husband WILLIAM RODGER died 15th January 1966 aged 77 years"
I've already posted the photos with just the bare facts to (try) and keep them in alphabetical order.

Got him, I was looking in the wrong war!
Name: RODGER, WILLIAM JOHN

Additional information: Son of William John and Margaret Rodger, of Possilpark, Glasgow.

Cemetery: LA BERNERIE-EN-RETZ COMMUNAL CEMETERY
(not listed on SNWM)
James is not listed at all. Reading the inscription again, I think that 'killed in France' only applies to William so James is not a war death at all.

Well done again Paul - you've certainly got a knack at finding my mystery men!
I'm obviously not being able to see the wood for the trees these days and as you pointed out, the way the inscription is worded, James probably isn't a war death.

Maybe someone can tell me if this is a war death - I don't know what R.O. Merchant Service is.
Again, I'll post the full inscription:
"In loving memory of our dear son WILLIAM SPEIRS beloved husband of Martha McAllister
R. O. Merchant Service accidentally drowned 21st November 1940 aged ?3 years
His mother ELIZABETH HELEN CARLYLE died 13th June 1967 aged 75 years
Also his father JOHN McNAIR SPEIRS died 11th January 1970 aged 79 years"
