Dear Moderators

could you please explain why the above is listed under Lanarkshire - Kirkie is now part of east Dunbartonshire but before lolast round of local gov reorg was always part of Dunbartonshire.

I am also aware (having found it by chance) that there are other Kirkintilloch memorials on the site in addition to the individual graves at Old Aisle; viz Civic War Memorial at Peel Park and the Celtic Cross in the ground sof St David's memorial Church (Alexandra Street, Kirkintilloch, and unveiled incidentally on 7 May 1922 by the senior Elder, Mr Archibald Watson) but these frustratingly do not come up when you type Kirkintilloch in to the search box.

There are other memorials in Kirkie which may also be on the site but no easy way of checking if they are - this makes one hesitant about submitting info on them in case it is already listed. Can you look into the navigations please or tell me where I am going wrong?

Incidentally the Minister of St David's Memorial Church (from 1923 - post 1926?) was Rev Andrew D Morrison MC. Born in Glasgow he was educated at Glasgow University and in June 1915 joined the 3/9th HLI and was promoted to Sergeant 6 weeks later. On 5 August 1916 he was gazetted Second-Lieutenant 7th Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders and embarked for France in October 1916. He was invalided home shortly thereafter but returned to France again in May 1917. He was wounded at Poellcapelle on 20 September 1917 in an action which earned him the Military Cross, re-grouping a body of attacking troops who had been checked by heavy machine gun fire an dleading them successfully to capture their original objective. In February 1918 he was promoted to Lieutenant , was again wounded, and again invalided home (in March 1918). He again recovered and returned to the front in August and earned a bar to his MC for his attempts to enter the village of Lieu St Amand under intense machine gun fire and recovered a wounded man after being ordered to withdraw, on 13 October 1918.

The William Henry, listed as a casualty of the 1914-18 war on the St David's Memorial was Gunner William Henry, 61 Seige Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery who was kia in May 1917 and whose family headstone features in the Old Aisle, Kirkintilloch pages of this site. Gunner Henry is interred at Tilloy British Military cemetery. He is also listed on te Kirkintilloch civic war memorial at Peel Brae.
